About
Our work
The Health and Care Research Wales Evidence Centre works with a number of dedicated organisations across Wales to develop robust health and social care research evidence on a range of topics, focussing on:
- Identifying information gaps relating to health and social care policy and practice in Wales
- Answering research questions that address the information gaps quickly and with robust methodology
- Establishing a network between the Centre and key policy and practice organisations such as Welsh Government, Social Care Wales and the NHS
- Working closely with the Welsh public and making sure they are part of all our work
- Reviewing available research evidence where possible
- Conducting new research where evidence is lacking
Our history
The Health and Care Research Wales Evidence Centre builds on the successes of the Wales COVID-19 Evidence Centre (2021-23), which provided decision makers with vital research evidence to help manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
Having the Wales COVID-19 Evidence Centre available to pull the research together has been imperative for Wales. The Centre has informed equity discussions and helped us through a difficult journey … When I think about what the Centre does... I think it's excelled. The work they’ve done is fantastic.
Chief Medical Officer for Wales, Sir Frank Atherton
Using the skills, methods and networks developed in the Wales COVID-19 Evidence Centre, the Health and Care Research Wales Evidence Centre now focuses on supporting policy and practice decision making for a broader range of health and social care topics.
